Eagles fall to Commanders, extend losing streak to six games

Résumé

Philadelphia lost to Washington 27-10, dropping to 2-6 and marking the franchise's longest losing streak since 2012.

Philadelphia's NFL season worsened on Sunday night as the Eagles were defeated by the Commanders 27-10 in Landover, Maryland. The loss left the team at 2-6, extending its losing streak to six games, the longest run of defeats since 2012 and the ninth-longest in the club's 94-year history.

The Eagles' defense allowed 339 total yards, including 135 rushing yards, while the Commanders, despite missing several key offensive players, managed 21 first-down yards on their opening three drives and ultimately outgained Philadelphia. The loss marked the eighth consecutive game in which the Eagles have surrendered 100 or more rushing yards, a statistic not seen since 1968.

Offensive struggles were evident as quarterback Tanner McKee was sacked five times and the unit recorded just 268 total yards, averaging 3.9 yards per play. Running backs Saquon Barkley and Elijah Mitchell combined for 64 yards on 24 carries. The Eagles also missed a field goal attempt after a penalty pushed the kick from 36 to 41 yards.

The defeat widened the team's point differential, as they have been outscored 160-89 over the six-game streak, an average margin of 11.8 points per game. The loss follows previous defeats to the Bears, Panthers, and Cowboys, each by double-digit margins.

Despite the overall performance, rookie tight end Eli Stowers recorded three receptions for 53 yards in his first extended playing time since returning from injured reserve, and punter Braden Mann continued to pin opponents deep with multiple punts inside the 20-yard line.

The Eagles now face mounting pressure to evaluate roster and coaching decisions as the season approaches the trade deadline.
