USC Upsets Ohio State, Keeping College Football Playoff Dreams Alive
USC achieved a significant 30-18 victory over No. 2 Ohio State, reviving its College Football Playoff aspirations and bolstering coach Lincoln Riley's position amid recent scrutiny.
USC secured a crucial 30-18 victory against No. 2 Ohio State, maintaining its hopes for the College Football Playoff. Coach Lincoln Riley emphasized the importance of the win, stating, "Every game is its own season. This was a big one."
The Trojans, who improved to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten, showcased a strong performance, racing to a 20-9 halftime lead and limiting the Buckeyes to one touchdown late in the game. USC's freshman talent shone, with wide receiver Trent Mosley contributing 145 all-purpose yards and tight end Mark Bowman making a notable 70-yard catch-and-run.
Despite being outgained by 126 yards and losing the possession battle, USC's efficiency was key, converting four of its first six drives into scores. Riley noted the team's discipline, as Ohio State faced 11 penalties during the game.
Riley, addressing questions about his future after a prior loss to Wisconsin, reaffirmed his commitment to USC, stating, "If I didn't want to be at this place, I wouldn't have come here in the first place." He concluded by expressing gratitude for the support from the program's community, emphasizing that the victory was for everyone involved at USC.
