Cyclone Murasu Expected to Make Landfall on Andhra Pradesh Coast
Cyclone Murasu has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is projected to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 3, bringing winds of up to 120 km/h.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that a deep depression over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclonic Storm Murasu. The storm is expected to make landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast in the early hours of November 3, with wind speeds anticipated to reach 100-110 km/h, gusting up to 120 km/h.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra indicated that the cyclone is likely to move west-northwestward and could intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by November 2. He stated, "At present, we expect this to form into a cyclonic storm. Once formed, it will be named Murasu. There is a slight possibility it may turn into a severe cyclonic storm too."
In preparation for the storm, the Odisha government has ordered evacuations from low-lying areas and hilly terrains, as the cyclone may also impact the state with scattered rainfall and thunderstorms. IMD officials have warned of possible weather disturbances as the system approaches the coast. The cyclone is named Murasu, meaning 'drum' in Tamil, as proposed by India.
