One Dead, Several Injured in Nashua Country Club Shooting; Suspect Detained

A shooting at the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire, on Saturday evening resulted in the death of one man and injuries to several others, according to authorities. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. at the country club located on Mountain Laurels Drive.

New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella and Nashua Police Chief Kevin Rourke confirmed that the deceased was an adult male. Several other individuals sustained injuries, though the exact number and severity have not been disclosed. A person of interest, also an adult male, was detained at the scene. Authorities have stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Initial reports suggested the presence of two armed suspects who had fled the scene. However, subsequent review of surveillance footage indicated there was only one shooter, who is now in custody. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene during a wedding celebration at the country club. Tom Bartelson of Pepperell, Massachusetts, recounted hearing the shooter say, "the children are safe" and "free Palestine," suggesting the individual may have been targeting someone. Another attendee, Emily Ernst, observed the gunman dressed in black with a mask, stating, "We just saw him raise the gun and then we ran."

Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess expressed his condolences, emphasizing that such incidents can occur anywhere. He remarked, "I think the message is for every community out there: No matter how unlikely it seems, it can happen. It can happen where you live." U.S. Representative Maggie Goodlander also conveyed her support, stating she was "closely monitoring the tragic reports of a shooting tonight at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua" and that her heart was with the victims ... , and the community.
