Patrick Stewart died at age 86 after battling Alzheimer's disease and Lewy body dementia. The British actor’s final appearance will be in the forthcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, in which he returns as Professor Charles Xavier.
At a recent San Diego Comic-Con panel, actor Anthony Mackie spoke about his experience sharing the set with Stewart and other veteran performers. Mackie said he was impressed by the opportunity to work alongside Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen and Kelsey Grammer, noting that collaborating with such established actors was a rare privilege.
Stewart, known for his work in Star Trek, the X-Men franchise and classical theatre, had previously indicated he did not plan to retire, expressing a desire to continue acting as long as compelling roles were offered. His portrayal of Professor X spanned more than two decades, and his participation in Avengers: Doomsday is being described as a fitting conclusion to his cinematic career.
The film also features several other actors associated with the X-Men series, including James Marsden and Rebecca Romijn, alongside McKellen and Grammer. Fans anticipate Stewart’s posthumous performance will serve as a tribute to his extensive body of work.
