Trump adds Iowa and Kansas rallies to weekend schedule after earlier cancellations
President Donald Trump announced he will hold rallies in Iowa and Kansas on Sunday, reversing earlier cancellations, as the midterm election campaign intensifies.
President Donald Trump told a crowd in Florida that he had expected the Oct. 30 event to be his final rally of the midterm campaign, but he will travel to Iowa and Kansas on Sunday after the Republican National Committee had announced the stops would be cancelled. Trump said Republican officials from both states asked him to hold rallies of about 50,000 attendees to help ensure victories in tight Senate races. "Then they called me in Iowa, and they called me in Kansas, and they said, 'Sir, would it be possible to do a little rally of about 50,000 people each?' and I said, 'Does it matter,'" he told the audience. He added that the requests were meant to "make sure that we win." The president also noted that he had been campaigning in several states, including South Carolina, Ohio, Mississippi, Michigan, Georgia and Florida, where he voted on Oct. 24. With the election approaching, Republicans are focusing on defending their majorities in the Senate and the House, while political analysts project that Democrats are likely to take control of the House and that the Senate outcome will hinge on a handful of key races, including those in Kansas and Iowa.
