Manchester United coach Michael Carrick says he expects to stay on for Champions League tie despite nine-game winless streak
Manchester United's winless run in all competitions has reached nine matches, but head coach Michael Carrick indicated he will remain in charge for the upcoming Champions League game against Roma.
Manchester United lost 2-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, extending the club's winless run to nine matches across all competitions, the longest such streak since 1984. Defender Lisandro Martinez was sent off after conceding a penalty that allowed Cole Palmer to score the second goal.
Despite speculation that he might be dismissed after a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth the previous week, Carrick told TNT Sports he expects to stay in charge for Tuesday's Champions League match against Roma at Old Trafford. He added that his focus is on preparing the squad for the midweek game.
United have now failed to win any of their first seven away fixtures this season, a record not seen since the 1973-74 campaign. When asked about the team's position near the bottom of the league, Carrick said the situation can be viewed either as a challenge or an opportunity to climb the table quickly with victories.
Addressing the supporters' reaction at Chelsea, Carrick acknowledged the strong emotional response and praised the fans for their continued support despite recent defeats. He emphasized the need to deliver positive performances and thanked the supporters for their dedication.
When questioned about Martinez's red card, Carrick declined to place blame on the player, stating he had not reviewed the incident and did not feel the defender had let the team down.
Manchester United's upcoming schedule includes the Champions League tie with Roma, followed by Premier League matches against Aston Villa, Liverpool, Brentford, and further Champions League fixtures against Sporting.
