Colts explore trade options for running back Jonathan Taylor, with five teams showing interest
The Indianapolis Colts are actively negotiating a possible trade for Jonathan Taylor, having received at least one offer that includes a second-round pick, while five NFL clubs have expressed interest.
The Indianapolis Colts have confirmed they are open to trading running back Jonathan Taylor and are in discussions with multiple teams, according to reports from ESPN and NFL Network. The move follows recent transactions in which the Colts dealt cornerback Quenton Nelson to Seattle and defensive end DeForest Buckner to San Francisco for future draft picks.
Taylor, who has not requested a trade, remains one of the league’s most productive backs, having led the NFL in rushing touchdowns twice and in rushing yards in 2021. He has eight rushing touchdowns through seven games this season, putting him on pace for a career-high total.
At least one suitor has presented an offer that includes a second-round draft pick along with additional compensation. ESPN identified five clubs with varying levels of interest: the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks.
The Packers, currently struggling with the league’s lowest rushing yards per game, could use a high-volume back to balance their pass-heavy offense. The Giants, leading the NFC East, are reportedly looking for a power runner to complement their young quarterback J.J. McCarthy. The Broncos, despite recent spending on wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, have also faced challenges in the running game and possess an extra fourth-round pick in 2027. Seattle, which recently acquired Quenton Nelson from Indianapolis, may consider reuniting him with Taylor to bolster its ground attack after the departure of Kenneth Walker III. The Vikings have also been mentioned as a potential destination.
The Colts, sitting at 2-5, are evaluating offers that could yield a significant return for Taylor, potentially exceeding the compensation received for the recent trades of Nelson and Buckner.
