Apple issues service guidance for iPhone Duo inner screen cracks
Apple has sent new instructions to its stores and authorized service providers on how to inspect and repair iPhone Duo units showing inner display cracks, a problem said to affect a limited number of devices.
Apple has circulated an internal memo to its retail locations and authorized service partners outlining procedures for handling reports of inner display cracking on the iPhone Duo. Technicians are instructed to examine affected phones and carry out repairs or replacements according to the company’s standard service guidelines.
The company says the issue concerns only a small fraction of iPhone Duo units and that most devices remain unaffected. Customers experiencing display problems are advised to contact AppleCare or visit an Apple service provider for assessment.
Reports of cracks and bright lines on the inner screen have emerged shortly after the foldable model reached consumers, with some users noting damage after fewer than 20 folds. A teardown by repair site iFixit suggests a possible malfunction of the hinge’s central support bar, which could place excess pressure on the inner display, though Apple has not confirmed any specific cause.
iFixit rated the iPhone Duo’s repairability at 5 out of 10 and indicated that an out-of-warranty screen replacement could cost about $999 in the United States. Apple has not announced a recall or a dedicated repair program, relying instead on existing inspection and repair processes.
