Pima County Sheriff’s Department updates Nancy Guthrie kidnapping investigation as DNA analysis efforts continue

Résumé

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said investigators met with Florida lab scientists to explore additional DNA testing options and urged the public to share any information about the 84-year-old’s disappearance.

Pima County Sheriff’s Department officials said on Friday that the agency is working with the Nancy Guthrie Task Force to expand DNA analysis in the ongoing missing-person case of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who was taken from her Tucson home on Feb. 1.

"Earlier this month, investigators traveled to Florida to meet with lab scientists to see what more could be done to advance this case," the department posted on X, adding that several ideas were discussed and that collaboration with partners will continue.

The department reminded the community that even minor tips could be important.

Guthrie, the mother of NBC journalist Savannah Guthrie, was last seen shortly before 10 p.m. on Jan. 31 after a relative dropped her off at her residence in the Catalina Foothills area. A masked individual was captured on her Ring doorbell camera, but investigators have not identified a suspect.

Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters that Guthrie was taken against her will.

Two ransom notes released in July were described as having a distinctive writing style; authorities asked anyone familiar with the pattern to contact the task force. A possible new note was reported in late September, prompting investigators to review related social-media comments for credibility.

Members of the public with information are encouraged to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or, for anonymous tips, 520-88-CRIME.
