Haryana school boy assaults kindergarten girl, child left in serious condition

Summary

An eight-year-old boy attacked a six-year-old girl with stones and a flower pot at a Panchkula school, leaving her critically injured and prompting a police investigation.

An eight-year-old student at Sanskriti Model School in Panchkula, Haryana, violently assaulted a six-year-old kindergarten girl on Oct. 28, striking her with stones and a flower pot and causing serious injuries. Video footage shows the boy dragging the girl into a classroom, banging her head on a desk, throwing her to the floor and repeatedly kicking her before leaving the scene after about a minute and a half.

The girl lost consciousness and was found bleeding on the floor. Her parents were taken to the classroom by the boy, who reportedly told them, "Aapki bacchi yaha padi hai" (Your daughter is lying here). She was taken to a civil hospital in Sector 6 and later transferred to PGI Chandigarh for advanced care, where she remains in serious condition.

Police have opened an investigation and are questioning the accused boy’s parents. The victim’s uncle said the boy had previously displayed aggressive behavior, including prior complaints for hitting dogs, and that the assault occurred after the girl allegedly said she would report him to teachers.

Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda said a committee will probe the incident and pledged that "no compromise on the safety of children will be tolerated, and appropriate action will be taken."
