Harry Kane Wins Ballon d'Or by Narrow Margin Over Kylian Mbappé
Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane secured the 2027 Ballon d'Or, edging Kylian Mbappé by 28 points, the fourth-narrowest margin in the award's history.
Harry Kane of Bayern Munich was named the winner of the 2027 Ballon d'Or, finishing 28 points ahead of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, according to voting data released on Friday. The margin ranks as the fourth-narrowest victory in the award's history, L'Equipe reported.
The men's award is decided by journalists from the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations, each allocating points to ten players (15, 12, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1). Of the 100 ballots, 40 placed Kane in the top spot, while Mbappé received first-place votes on 23 ballots. Kane appeared outside the top ten on two ballots; Mbappé was omitted from three.
Spain's Lamine Yamal finished 155 points ahead of teammate Rodri, with Inter Miami's Lionel Messi completing the top five. Yamal earned 13 first-place votes, Rodri ten, per L'Equipe.
France Football editor-in-chief Vincent Garcia said he believed Rodri "deprived Lamine of some votes" because voters split credit for Spain's 2026 World Cup win.
Diario AS journalist José Félix Díaz, representing Spain, voted for Mbappé as the winner over Lamine and Kane.
