Russia Launches Large-Scale Missile and Drone Attacks Across Ukraine

Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack targeting multiple regions across Ukraine early Saturday, resulting in at least three fatalities and numerous injuries, according to Ukrainian officials.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the assaults affected nine regions, including Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv. He stated that the attacks targeted infrastructure, residential areas, and civilian enterprises. In Dnipro, a missile equipped with cluster munitions struck a multi-story building. Zelenskyy emphasized that such strikes are deliberate strategies by Russia to intimidate civilians and destroy infrastructure.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Governor Serhii Lysak reported that at least 30 people were wounded, with several high-rise buildings and homes damaged in Dnipro. In the Kyiv region, strikes were reported in Bucha, Boryspil, and Obukhiv, causing damage to a home and vehicles. In the western region of Lviv, Governor Maxim Kozytsky stated that two cruise missiles were shot down.

Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 619 drones and missiles, including 579 drones, eight ballistic missiles, and 32 cruise missiles. Ukrainian forces intercepted and neutralized 552 drones, two ballistic missiles, and 29 cruise missiles. The Air Force highlighted the effectiveness of Western-supplied weapons, noting that tactical aviation, including F-16 fighters, effectively countered the enemy's cruise missiles.

In a separate incident, Estonia reported that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated its airspace on Friday, remaining for 12 minutes. Russia's Defense Ministry denied the violation, stating that the flight was conducted in strict compliance with international airspace regulations. Estonia summoned a Russian diplomat to protest the incursion and initiated consultations among NATO allies under Article 4, which addresses threats to territorial integrity and security.

Poland's Operational Command reported that Polish and allied aircraft were deployed overnight due to Russian long-range airstrikes in neighboring Ukraine. The operation aimed to secure airspace in areas adjacent to the threatened zone. Polish jets have been deployed repeatedly in recent months to patrol the country's airspace in response to Russian attacks on Ukraine.

President Zelenskyy expressed hope to finalize security guarantees during upcoming meetings in New York. He noted that Ukraine and its partners have laid the groundwork for long-term security commitments and emphasized the need for continued sanctions against Russia if peace efforts stall.
