Actress Selma Blair apologizes after in-flight arrest
Selma Blair posted an Instagram video apologizing for her October 11 arrest on a Delta flight, citing a legal matter and health issues as factors.
Selma Blair broke her social-media silence on Friday with an Instagram video addressing her October 11 arrest on a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York. She said a legal matter prevents her from commenting on the incident and emphasized that she takes the situation "very seriously."
Blair expressed regret to those she "disappointed," "hurt," "frightened" and "alarmed," and thanked supporters for their messages of love. She said she will focus on her health and caring for her son, Arthur Saint Bleick.
According to court records, Blair was arrested after allegedly punching a flight attendant, biting another, and later assaulting a police officer and a nurse. The pilot reported the passenger as "abusive" and noted injuries to crew members.
Delta Airlines said it has "zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first."
In court, Blair pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault and was released on bail. Her attorneys attributed the conduct to missed medication for multiple sclerosis and fatigue from recent work, describing the behavior as unintentional.
"These factors coupled with the altitude resulted in a state of severe confusion and disorientation," attorney Shawn Barnes said.
