A real-estate chief, his two daughters and wife were wounded in a masked home invasion in Toronto's Bridle Path, prompting a police search for three suspects.

Police are searching for three suspects after a home invasion in Toronto's Bridle Path left a real-estate executive, his two daughters and his wife injured. The attack occurred around 03:44 EST on Thursday when three masked men entered the residence through a rear door, fired handguns at the victims and struck the wife with a hammer, according to Toronto Police.

Derek Morton, chief executive of the Mac Group, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the family was "reeling from the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest: their own home." He added that three masked individuals forced entry, were armed with handguns and a hammer, and that all four family members required emergency medical attention.

Inspector Kristy Smith of the Toronto Police Service told reporters that the suspects, believed to be men in their 20s, likely targeted the family because of the neighbourhood's affluence. She said police are still determining whether anything was taken and are collecting bullet casings to aid identification.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said the incident "shook the neighbourhood and many residents across Toronto," adding that such violence is unacceptable and that residents must feel safe in their homes.

Authorities have not released the suspects' identities and have not confirmed whether valuables were stolen. Police noted a rise in home-invasion incidents citywide, prompting some residents to upgrade security measures.
