Broncos reportedly monitoring trade options for running back Jonathan Taylor

摘要

Insider James Palmer says Denver is watching the Indianapolis Colts' star running back Jonathan Taylor as a potential trade target before the NFL deadline.

The Denver Broncos are reportedly keeping an eye on the Indianapolis Colts' running back Jonathan Taylor as the NFL trade deadline approaches, NFL On Prime insider James Palmer said. > "They are one of the teams, I'm told, that is monitoring the Jonathan Taylor situation. It's more than likely he stays there in Indianapolis, but they are keeping an eye there," Palmer said.

The Broncos' rushing attack currently ranks 24th in the league, averaging 94.9 yards per game, and the team has cited a difficult early-season schedule against strong defenses as a factor. Recent improvement came against the Arizona Cardinals, where rookie running back Jonah Coleman posted 6.0 yards per carry on nine carries.

Coleman's return from injured reserve has added energy to Denver's offense, but the front office is still evaluating the performance of both Coleman and veteran running back J.K. Dobbins before deciding on a possible trade. Head coach Sean Payton typically employs a running-back-by-committee approach, and any acquisition of Taylor would likely be integrated into that system.

Taylor, a three-time Pro Bowler and former rushing champion, signed a two-year, $44 million extension before the season, carrying a $16.1 million cap hit for 2025 and projected cap numbers of $21 million and $22.98 million in 2027 and 2028. The Broncos would need to balance his cost against the remaining years of quarterback Bo Nix's rookie contract.

Analysts note that several teams are making aggressive moves ahead of the deadline, and a trade for Taylor could address Denver's bottom-ranked rushing attack if the team decides the benefit outweighs the financial commitment.
