Arsenal's appeal against Max Dowman's red card dismissed, three-match ban confirmed

Resumen

An independent panel rejected Arsenal's appeal over 16-year-old Max Dowman's Carabao Cup red card, imposing a three-match suspension as the club prepares for its upcoming Premier League match against Liverpool.

Arsenal's appeal to overturn Max Dowman's red card from the Carabao Cup penalty shootout loss to Fleetwood Town was rejected by an independent panel, confirming a three-match suspension for the 16-year-old. The dismissal follows Dowman's retaliation to a heavy challenge by Harrison Neal during the shootout.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said the club was "deeply disappointed" that the decision was not changed despite presenting evidence of provocation. He emphasized that the Premier League is a demanding environment and that the young player must earn his place, stating, "We are not in Disneyland. We are in the Premier League at this level and we look after him so much that you cannot imagine. But at the same time, we're going to demand him like anybody else because he needs to earn the right to play."

Arteta also highlighted Dowman's age and previous disciplinary record, noting his recent red card while playing for England Under-19s and his record-breaking achievements as the youngest Premier League winner, goalscorer and Champions League player. "You have to read the context of the player, the age, and what happened previously," he said, adding that the panel should have considered the reckless tackles he received.

With the cup run ended, Arsenal will shift focus to domestic competitions, and Dowman will serve his suspension as the team travels to Anfield for a Premier League clash against Liverpool.
