Toronto traffic agent killed by dump truck; driver charged with careless driving causing death

Resumen

A 33-year-old driver was arrested and charged after a dump truck struck a City of Toronto traffic agent in the east end, resulting in the agent's death.

A dump truck collided with a City of Toronto traffic agent on Thursday morning in the Millwood Road and Overlea Boulevard area, killing the 42-year-old employee. Police said the blue Kenworth truck was traveling southbound on Millwood Road and attempted a left turn onto eastbound Overlea Boulevard when it struck the agent, who was directing traffic at the time.

"I am heartbroken to learn of the death," Mayor Olivia Chow said in a statement identifying the victim.

The driver, a 33-year-old man from Brampton, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was later arrested and charged with careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act. The driver is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 28, 2027. Police continue to investigate and have asked anyone with security or dash-cam footage of the incident to contact Toronto Traffic Services.
