Qatari delegation visits Tehran to discuss US-Iran cease-fire talks

摘要

A Qatari team led by senior adviser Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani arrived in Iran to convey a US vice-presidential letter and explore a framework for renewed negotiations.

A Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday morning to meet Iranian officials and deliver a letter from US Vice President JD Vance to Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei. The team, headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, senior adviser to Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, coordinated the visit with US officials, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.

The letter, described by sources as proposing a new diplomatic process rather than specific peace terms, was said to present a "framework for negotiations" aimed at preventing further US strikes.

"The tone of the letter was much more respectful than previous correspondence from the US administration, which was welcomed by Iranian authorities," reported Al Jazeera correspondent Resul Serdar.

While Tehran has not issued an official response, the Qatari team is expected to return with Iran’s reaction and may arrange a follow-up meeting within a week in Doha or Istanbul.
