Trump and Vice President Vance Cancel Planned Midterm Appearances

摘要

President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance called off several in-person events in three states as the 72-hour campaign sprint before the midterm elections begins.

President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have withdrawn from a series of scheduled appearances in Kansas, Iowa and Minnesota in the final days of the midterm campaign. The cancellations come as the Republican National Committee prepares a "72-hour sprint" of tele-rallies that the party says will reach at least 19 states before Election Day.

Trump had planned weekend rallies in Kansas on Saturday and Iowa on Sunday, but will now address voters by phone. The RNC noted that the president had already held 25 rallies this month and that the sprint is intended to boost Republican turnout.

"Voters across the country want to hear from President Trump before Election Day, and this 72-hour sprint will be a huge boost in the closing days," RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said in a statement.

During a recent rally in Corinth, Mississippi, Trump acknowledged the strain of a dense schedule, saying his vocal cords were not made for daily rallies. Later, after campaigning for Senator Darline Graham in South Carolina, he told a Reuters reporter, "You've been following me for two weeks. I feel perfect."

Vice President Vance also cancelled a Friday news conference in St. Cloud, Minnesota, that was to launch the administration's "War on Fraud" initiative. The White House said Vance leads the task force on fraud elimination, but no reason was given for the cancellation.

Trump remains slated to hold a rally in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Friday, with no events announced for the final campaign day on Monday.
