Delhi to Ban Non-BS6 Vehicles During Winter Months
From November 1, 2026, Delhi will prohibit entry of non-BS6 registered cars, trucks and buses until January 31, 2027, with exemptions for CNG, electric and other approved vehicles.
Delhi will begin enforcing a ban on non-BS6 vehicles entering the city on November 1, 2026, as part of a winter air-quality plan. The restriction, announced by the Environment Department on June 23, 2026, will remain in effect until January 31, 2027.
Only vehicles that meet BS6 emission standards, as well as CNG and electric vehicles, are permitted to travel within Delhi. The rule also applies to any vehicle that holds a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC). Vehicles specifically listed as exempt by the government notification are also allowed.
Vehicles that fail to meet BS6 standards, including diesel buses from other states, will be barred from entering the capital. Trucks and other goods vehicles whose destination is outside Delhi must use the Eastern or Western Peripheral Expressways or other designated routes instead of passing through the city. Tractors and locally assembled “jugaad” vehicles are also prohibited under the notification.
"The measure is intended to curb vehicle emissions during the winter months when air quality typically worsens across the National Capital Region," the notification states.
