Trump and Xi to Meet at APEC Summit in South Korea, Plan Reciprocal Visits
U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet at the APEC summit in South Korea next month, with plans for reciprocal visits to each other's countries.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea, scheduled for late October. This meeting follows a recent phone call between the two leaders, during which they discussed various issues, including trade relations and the ongoing negotiations concerning TikTok's operations in the United States.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the call as "productive" and expressed appreciation for Xi's approval of the TikTok deal. He also indicated plans to visit China early next year, with Xi expected to make a reciprocal visit to the United States at an appropriate time.
The TikTok agreement involves ByteDance, the Chinese parent company, selling a controlling stake in the app to a group of U.S. firms, including Oracle. This arrangement aims to address data privacy and national security concerns that have been raised by U.S. officials.
During their conversation, Trump and Xi also discussed other critical issues, such as trade policies, the fentanyl crisis, and efforts to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
This upcoming meeting at the APEC summit will mark the first in-person encounter between Trump and Xi since 2019 and the first during Trump's second term. It comes amid ongoing efforts by both nations to navigate complex trade negotiations and geopolitical challenges.
