Joan Smalls posts about accountability amid split with Candice Swanepoel over Tom Brady

Model Joan Smalls posted on Instagram on Tuesday, writing, "This Halloween, I’m dressing up as accountability. Apparently, that’s the scariest thing some people can face." The caption was shared alongside a repost from another creator and was interpreted as a response to a reported dispute with longtime friend and fellow model Candice Swanepoel.

According to a source cited by Page Six, the disagreement stems from Swanepoel’s recent relationship with former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Smalls previously dated Brady, though the source said the relationship was never serious. The source added that Swanepoel had allegedly encouraged Smalls to end the liaison.

In comments later deleted from social media, Smalls described Swanepoel as a “backstabber” and lamented a breach of “girl code.” She also expressed frustration about perceived disrespect and a lack of humility, concluding with “Onwards and upwards!!!”

Swanepoel’s representative, Amanda Ruisi, said the model has kept her personal life private and remains focused on raising her children. Ruisi added that Swanepoel and Smalls share a long history and that the former respects their friendship.
