Brewers and Rays set to clash in World Series Game 5 with aces on the mound
Milwaukee starter Jacob Misiorowski and Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen will pitch Game 5 of the World Series, each on short rest, as both teams adjust their bullpens after a marathon Game 4.
Milwaukee and Tampa Bay will meet for Game 5 of the World Series, with each club turning to its top pitcher. The Brewers are starting Jacob Misiorowski, who threw 78 pitches in his Game 1 start, while the Rays will send Drew Rasmussen, who worked 89 pitches in Game 2 and will pitch on three days’ rest.
Misiorowski delivered five innings, four hits, one walk and one run in his first start, relying on a 102-mph fastball despite reduced strikeout totals and signs of fatigue after logging 188 innings this season and postseason combined. Rasmussen entered the series with the strongest postseason numbers among pitchers but struggled in Saturday’s outing, allowing three runs in 3 2/3 innings after a heavy workload that has pushed his season total past 196 innings.
Both clubs face uncertainty in their bullpens after a lengthy Game 4. Milwaukee’s recent usage includes Robert Gasser, Antonio Senzatela, JoJo Romero, Trevor Megill and Dustin May, with several relievers having logged limited work. Tampa Bay’s bullpen options feature Tyler Wells, Ian Seymour, Bryan Baker and Nick Martinez, though Martinez’s recent two-inning appearance may limit his availability.
Junior Caminero is listed in the Rays’ lineup after a brief limp, while the Brewers will retain the same batting order used in Game 4, with Sal Frelick batting sixth and Garrett Mitchell eighth. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. on Fox and will be carried on the Brewers Radio Network.
