Apple unveils touchscreen MacBook Pro with OLED and Dynamic Island
Apple introduced a new MacBook Pro featuring a touch screen, OLED display and Dynamic Island, available in 14- and 16-inch models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
Apple announced an updated MacBook Pro that adds a touch screen, marking the first time the company has offered a touchscreen on its flagship laptop. The new models, available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, also feature OLED displays and the Dynamic Island interface element previously seen on iPhones. They are powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, with the 14-inch version starting at AU$4,599 and slated for release on November 6 (U.S. time).
Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer, described the device as a "monumental step forward for the Mac." The product was presented by chief executive officer John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook last month. Apple said the redesign aims to meet long-standing customer demand for touch capability, a feature that has been standard on iPhones, iPads and Apple Watch.
The launch comes as the broader laptop market faces pressure from rising memory chip costs and a 20% decline in global PC shipments in the third quarter, according to IDC. While Apple’s own shipments fell during the period, the decline was less pronounced than the industry average.
