South Carolina police rule Hayden Panettiere's death accidental
Greenville authorities confirmed that the actress's death was classified as an accidental overdose, following the medical examiner's findings.
Greenville Police Department announced Wednesday that the investigation into Hayden Panettiere's death has been concluded and the case was officially ruled accidental, based on the medical examiner's determination and investigative findings.
The South Carolina coroner had earlier confirmed that the 36-year-old actress died from an accidental drug overdose that involved fentanyl, with no signs of trauma reported.
Emergency responders were dispatched to a residence in Greenville on the afternoon of Aug. 16 after a 911 call was placed by the boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother Zach. Despite advanced cardiac life support measures, Panettiere was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office.
"Based on the Medical Examiner's determination and the findings of the investigation, the actor's death was officially ruled accidental," the police department said.
