Apple unveils touchscreen MacBook Pro with new PROLED XDR display

Résumé

Apple introduced a touchscreen MacBook Pro, available in 14- and 16-inch models with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, starting at $2,899, and will ship in early November.

Apple announced a new MacBook Pro that incorporates a touchscreen, marking a shift from its earlier Touch Bar approach. The models feature a PROLED XDR display with up to 2,000 nits peak brightness and a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and are offered in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes.

Customers can choose between M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, with configurations supporting up to 128 GB of unified memory and 16 TB of storage. The devices include a hinge designed to stabilize the screen during touch interaction and to steady the camera for video calls. A Dynamic Island-style cutout replaces the traditional notch, and a six-speaker array with a new woofer aims to improve audio quality.

The 14-inch model weighs 3.0 lb (1.38 kg) and the 16-inch model 4.0 lb (1.82 kg), making them lighter than previous non-touch MacBooks. Both variants provide three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe, and a headphone jack, and support multiple external displays—up to three on the M5 Pro version and four on the M5 Max version.

Pricing starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch and $3,399 for the 16-inch model. Preorders begin on October 30, with shipments slated to start on November 6.
