Apple unveils MacBook Pro models with OLED screens and touchscreen capability

Resumen

Apple introduced new MacBook Pro laptops featuring OLED displays, touchscreen support, a Dynamic Island notch replacement, and updated speakers, with pricing starting at $2,899.

Apple announced a new line of MacBook Pro laptops that will be sold alongside the current models. The devices are equipped with OLED screens, branded as PROLED XDR, that use Tandem OLED technology similar to that found in iPad Pro tablets. The displays can reach up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness, sustain 1,000 nits, and support variable refresh rates from 10 Hz to 120 Hz, covering both P3 and Adobe RGB color gamuts.

For the first time, the MacBook Pro includes touchscreen functionality, which Apple describes as an additional interaction method rather than a primary input mode, noting that macOS has not been redesigned for touch. The devices do not support the Apple Pencil.

The traditional notch is replaced by a Dynamic Island, while authentication continues to rely on Touch ID; Face ID is not available.

The new models are marginally smaller in all dimensions and weigh 200–300 g less than existing versions. Apple also revised the internal thermal system to direct warm air away from the display. The back of the lid now features a glowing Apple logo, a design element seen on earlier MacBooks.

Audio hardware retains the six-speaker configuration but adds new woofers for deeper bass and updated tweeters, with a redesign that maintains sound quality when the lid is closed.

Internally, the laptops continue to use the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, with the same memory, storage, connectivity options, and battery life as the current lineup. Pricing for the PROLED XDR series starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch model with an M5 Pro chip and $3,399 for the 16-inch version; the M5 Max configurations are priced at $4,499 and $4,799 respectively. Pre-orders begin today, and shipments are scheduled for November 6.
