Florida mother charged with child endangerment after son injured while she was in Las Vegas

Resumen

Irene Miller faces four child endangerment counts after her 9-year-old son was hospitalized with a head wound while she was on a work trip, and she allegedly berated him for calling 911.

Osceola County deputies said Irene Miller, 50, left her four children unsupervised in Kissimmee while she traveled to Las Vegas for a five-day work assignment. On Oct. 21, the children’s 9-year-old son suffered a forehead injury when a dumbbell fell while he was building a fort. The boy was taken to a hospital, where his wound was treated.

When deputies contacted Miller by phone after the incident, Capt. Kim Montes of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reported that Miller told the officer she was working and then ended the call. She later called her 14-year-old son and, according to Montes, told him, "Why are you calling 911? You’re going to get me in trouble," while the deputy was on speaker.

The children were placed in the care of their father, Mark Miller, 53, who is facing a criminal battery charge and a restraining order stemming from a separate domestic incident. The father and the children have been staying at a motel.

Police noted that the family home appeared clean but contained limited food supplies for four children. Miller was detained at Orlando International Airport upon her return, booked into Orange County Jail, and released on a $4,000 bond. Her next court appearance has not been scheduled.
