First Lady Melania Trump served as an exclusive intermediary in negotiations that produced a localized ceasefire for the Ukrainian city of Oleshky, which has been under Russian occupation since 2022. The agreement, signed on Oct. 23 by Russia’s human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova and Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Lubinets, outlines the delivery of food, clean water, medicine and medical personnel, as well as safe passage for residents wishing to leave.
According to Marc Beckman, a senior adviser to the first lady, the talks involved high-level officials from both Moscow and Kyiv, with video participation from Trump during the final signing in Belarus. The ceasefire, which began on Oct. 31, is limited to the Kherson axis around Oleshky and does not affect fighting elsewhere in Ukraine.
"The first lady's relationship with both Russia and Ukraine has been, over time, substantial," Beckman told Fox News Digital.
"We know all of the military equipment that will be brought in. We even went as far as organizing refrigerated trucks for the bodies that are going to be there," Beckman added.
The humanitarian operation will be conducted by civilian teams from both sides, with Russian General Valery Gerasimov confirming that Russian forces will halt fire along the designated corridor. Four American journalists are slated to accompany the mission to document evacuations.
The plan envisions a one-week delivery window, with the possibility of extensions negotiated through the first lady’s office. The agreement also calls for regular monthly humanitarian convoys and repatriation efforts across the Kherson region, coordinated with Trump’s team.
