Record-breaking king tide floods homes and highways in Southern California

Résumé

An 8-foot-2-inch king tide set a new record in Los Angeles Harbor, flooding residences, streets and the Pacific Coast Highway.

An unusually high tide, known as a king tide, reached 8 feet, 2 inches on Tuesday in Los Angeles Harbor, surpassing a record set the previous day. The surge inundated sections of the Pacific Coast Highway and caused water to back up through storm drains in nearby neighborhoods.

Linda Holle, an employee at a marine fueling station in Newport Beach, said her workplace was flooded. > "My office was flooded, and I had never seen flooding like this before," she told CBS News.

Meteorologists warned that future king tides in November and December could be more severe, especially if they coincide with winter storms and strong surf, potentially leading to additional flooding and infrastructure challenges.
