Arsenal will contest the dismissal of 16-year-old midfielder Max Dowman, who received a straight red for violent conduct in the club's Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood, which ended 1-1 before a penalty shootout.

Arsenal announced that it will appeal the straight red card shown to 16-year-old midfielder Max Dowman in the 85th minute of Tuesday's Carabao Cup match against Fleetwood Town. The dismissal followed a heavy challenge from Fleetwood's Harrison Neal, with Dowman's foot making contact with the opponent. The match finished 1-1, and Fleetwood advanced by winning the penalty shootout 5-3.

Dowman, who was also sent off earlier this month while playing for England's Under-19 team, faces a three-match suspension for violent conduct under the Laws of the Game. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after the game, "When we prepared the context of the match, we were very clear on the things to respect, the things that emotionally we have to dominate. It was very clear."

The club noted that injuries have limited options on the wing, with Bukayo Saka, Christos Tzolis and Noni Madueke currently unavailable.
