Rays win Game 4 in 12 innings to force a fifth World Series contest

Summary

Ben Williamson's walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th inning gave the Tampa Bay Rays a 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, extending the World Series to a decisive Game 5.

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in the bottom of the 12th inning of Game 4, preventing a sweep and setting up a fifth game in the World Series. Ben Williamson delivered a walk-off single that drove in pinch-runner Nick Fortes for the winning run after the Rays loaded the bases with a series of singles.

The Rays took an early lead on a Chandler Simpson RBI double in the second inning, but the Brewers tied the game in the fourth on a Cooper Pratt double and later erased the deficit with a home run by David Hamilton in the fifth. The contest remained deadlocked at 2-2 through the ninth inning and into extra innings.

In the top of the 12th, Cooper Pratt hit a home run off Tampa Bay reliever Ian Seymour, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 lead. The Rays responded in the bottom half: Junior Caminero reached third on an error, Liam Hicks advanced him with a soft chopper, and Jonny DeLuca drove in pinch-runner Cedric Mullins with a grounder. Chandler Simpson then singled to load the bases before Williamson's decisive hit.

The win keeps the series alive, with the Rays set to start Nick Martinez in Game 5 after using him in relief on Tuesday. The Brewers are expected to start Jacob Misiorowski, a leading candidate for the National League Cy Young Award, in the upcoming game.

"We got a lot of fight in us," said Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson on the broadcast after the game.
