Pentagon estimates U.S. spending on Iran war exceeds $47 billion

摘要

Pentagon data show U.S. military costs for the Iran conflict have risen to more than $47 billion, about 25% higher than the Defense Department’s July estimate.

The Pentagon’s latest figures indicate that the United States has spent over $47 billion on operations related to the war in Iran, surpassing the Defense Department’s July estimate of $37.5 billion by roughly 25%. The estimate, obtained by Reuters, includes operational expenses such as flight operations and cyber support, as well as more than $29 billion earmarked for replacing expended munitions. About $6 billion is allocated for replacing equipment and platform losses, which cover aircraft and drones lost during the conflict.

The cost increase is reported as the war continues into its second year, with U.S. officials saying the Pentagon has prepared plans to resume heavier combat if directed. The conflict, which began in February after President Donald Trump and Israel launched joint actions against Iran, has involved a naval blockade intended to limit Iran’s oil export revenue.

"The Pentagon’s estimate reflects the full range of operational costs, from flight missions to cyber support," a Pentagon spokesperson said.

The rising expense comes amid political discussions ahead of the November 3 elections, where control of Congress will be decided. Republicans, who hold a narrow majority in both chambers, are facing scrutiny over the war’s financial impact.
