Christina Applegate Reaffirms Support for MS Community After Misdiagnosis

Summary

Actress Christina Applegate announced she was misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis and pledged to continue advocating for the MS community.

Actress Christina Applegate returned to her "MeSsy" podcast a week after learning that she had been misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). While she does not have the disease, she said she will keep speaking on behalf of the MS community.

"Even though I don’t have this disease, I’ve fallen in love with everyone that we know, our listeners, our friends that have MS. I’m still your warrior, and I’m still going to speak out on your behalf forever and ever," Applegate told co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who was diagnosed with MS in 2001.

Applegate, who first disclosed an MS diagnosis in 2021 and stepped back from acting after the series "Dead to Me," co-founded the podcast to share her experience and raise awareness. In the latest episode, she described ongoing symptoms, including difficulty moving from her bed and reliance on a walker, noting that these issues are unrelated to MS.

She explained that new medical technology revealed the earlier diagnosis was incorrect, describing the revelation as both “great news” and a return to uncertainty about her health.

"It’s hard to say that my doctor came into my room and she said, ‘Congratulations, you don’t have MS.’ You don’t get misdiagnosed and then all of a sudden I’m better. I haven’t gotten better … If anything, I’ve gotten worse in some ways. So I’m back at square one, that I don’t know what’s going on with me," Applegate said.

Applegate acknowledged feeling a sense of responsibility toward the MS community but affirmed her commitment to continue supporting the group despite the diagnostic change.
