FBI raids Beverly Hills home linked to former Congressman Eric Swalwell

Résumé

Federal agents searched a Beverly Hills residence connected to former California Democrat Eric Swalwell as part of ongoing investigations into sexual-misconduct allegations against him.

Federal law enforcement officers conducted a raid on a Beverly Hills house on Tuesday, citing an ongoing criminal investigation tied to former U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell. The Department of Justice and the FBI confirmed the operation but declined to provide further details.

Swalwell, 45, withdrew from the California gubernatorial race earlier this year and resigned his congressional seat after multiple accusations of sexual misconduct surfaced. In August, FBI agents stopped him at an airport, seized his electronic devices, and later searched his Washington, D.C., residence.

His attorney, Sara Azari, described the accusations as "false, fabricated, and deeply offensive – a calculated and transparent political hit job." The statements from the justice department offered no additional comment.

Public records show the Beverly Hills address is associated with billionaire Stephen Cloobeck, a former gubernatorial candidate who had previously supported Swalwell’s campaign. Cloobeck told the New York Post in April that he withdrew his backing after several women accused Swalwell of misconduct.

Swalwell faces multiple allegations, including claims of rape while a victim was intoxicated and the unsolicited sending of nude photographs. He also faces separate investigations in New York City and Los Angeles. To date, he has denied all allegations and has not been charged with any crime.

The former congressman, once a frequent commentator on cable news and considered a potential future governor, ended his campaign after the allegations emerged.
