Apple refreshes 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac with new M6 chip

Summary

Apple introduced updated 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac models powered by its latest M6 processor, featuring enhanced CPU, GPU and connectivity options.

Apple has refreshed its base 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac lines with the new M6 processor. The MacBook Pro, which previously used the M5 chip, now offers a 12-core CPU (2 performance, 4 efficiency, 6 high-performance cores) and a 12-core GPU equipped with Neural Accelerators and hardware-accelerated ray tracing, plus a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Standard memory is 16 GB unified, configurable to 24 GB or 32 GB, with the higher-capacity options receiving the full 170 GB/s bandwidth; the base model runs at 153 GB/s. Storage starts at 1 TB and can be expanded to 2 TB or 4 TB.

The laptop also incorporates Apple’s N1 wireless chip, upgrading Wi-Fi to Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) and supporting Bluetooth 6. The iMac receives two M6 variants: a top-end model matching the MacBook Pro’s fully enabled chip, and a base version with a reduced 10-core CPU (2+3+5) and 10-core GPU, both retaining the dual 16-core Neural Engine. All iMacs ship with 16 GB unified memory as standard, with optional upgrades to 24 GB or 32 GB, and Apple lists a uniform 170 GB/s memory bandwidth. Storage starts at 256 GB SSD, with options up to 1 TB for both models and a 2 TB option for the higher-end iMac. The iMac also offers an optional nano-texture finish for the display.

Pricing begins at $1,999 for the 14-inch MacBook Pro. The iMac starts at $1,499 for the 10-core version and $1,699 for the 12-core version. Pre-orders open on October 28, with sales commencing on November 6.
