Florida mother arrested after leaving four children unattended during Las Vegas trip
Osceola County authorities arrested Irene Miller on child-neglect charges after a 911 call revealed her four children were left alone for nearly three days while she was in Las Vegas.
Osceola County Sheriff’s Office officials said Irene Miller, 50, was taken into custody on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm after a 911 call on Oct. 21 reported that a 9-year-old boy was injured by a falling dumbbell. When deputies arrived at the Kissimmee home, they found four children, ages 14, 12, 11 and 9, with no adult present. Paramedics treated the boy’s injury, which was described as minor, and the children were later placed with their father.
Miller told deputies she had traveled to Las Vegas for work on Oct. 18 and planned to return on Oct. 23, 2026, relying on a babysitter from Tampa to check on the children during mornings and afternoons but not to stay overnight. Detectives met her as she exited her flight from Las Vegas on Friday morning.
"The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate child neglect," Sheriff Chris Blackmon said. "These cases will be investigated, and charges will be brought against the parents who are not properly supervising or caring for their children."
Miller was booked into the Orange County jail and later released, according to jail records.
