Apple iPhone Duo screen cracks after 75,000 folds in user tests
Independent testing shows the iPhone Duo's inner display can fail after roughly 75,000 folds, a figure Apple has not publicly disclosed.
Several independent testers have reported that the iPhone Duo’s inner screen can crack after about 75,000 fold cycles. YouTuber Kuba Klawiter demonstrated the failure during a live stream, noting that the screen developed a line on the 75,001st fold after the device was placed in an ice bath to simulate cold conditions. > "We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement," Apple said in a statement to Gizmodo.
Other reviewers have conducted durability tests with lower fold counts. Tech journalist Joanna Stern used a robot to fold her iPhone Duo more than 32,000 times without reaching a break point, while MediaStorm’s Tim Pan and HTX Studio reported successful folds exceeding 10,000 and 3,000 cycles, respectively. All testers used loan units, which they did not intentionally damage beyond the test parameters.
For comparison, Samsung rates its latest Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold models for 500,000 folds before screen failure, and its earlier devices were rated for 200,000 folds. Klawiter observed that his Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Flip 5 units survived over 400,000 folds in similar tests.
The lack of an official durability rating from Apple has prompted calls for greater transparency, especially given the iPhone Duo’s $2,000 price tag.
