FBI raids Beverly Hills mansion linked to Eric Swalwell misconduct investigation

Resumen

Federal agents searched a Beverly Hills residence tied to former Rep. Eric Swalwell as part of a sexual misconduct probe that has resulted in multiple accusations against the ex-lawmaker.

Federal authorities conducted a search of a Beverly Hills mansion on Tuesday in connection with a sexual misconduct investigation involving former California Representative Eric Swalwell. The raid follows earlier FBI actions, including a search of Swalwell's Washington, D.C., home in August and the seizure of electronic devices at San Francisco International Airport.

Swalwell, who resigned from Congress and withdrew from the California gubernatorial race earlier this year after several women accused him of sexual misconduct or rape, was not arrested during the Beverly Hills operation. At least five women, including a former staff member, have made allegations against him.

The investigation also revisits a separate FBI inquiry into Swalwell's relationship with Christine "Fang Fang" Fang, identified by U.S. officials as a suspected Chinese intelligence operative. Declassified documents released by the White House indicate Swalwell told agents he had "physical relations" with Fang on several occasions, with the last encounter reported in March 2015.

Swalwell previously testified to the FBI in 2015 and 2016 regarding his interactions with Fang. In a statement issued at the time of his resignation, he said he would contest the allegations, describing them as false while acknowledging personal mistakes.

"I will fight the serious false allegations made against me," Swalwell wrote, adding that he must "take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make."
