Apple acknowledges screen cracking issue in new iPhone Duo foldable model

摘要

Apple confirmed a defect affecting the inner display of some iPhone Duo units and advised owners to contact AppleCare for replacements.

Apple has confirmed a problem with the inner display of its newly released iPhone Duo, a foldable smartphone priced at $3,499. Early adopters reported cracks, lines and display failures appearing around the device's foldable crease, sometimes accompanied by a noticeable crunch when opening the phone.

Customers shared their experiences on social media and forums. One user, Tom Battle, said the phone felt harder to open than usual and showed lines on the screen after unfolding. Another owner, venture capitalist Jonathan King, reported hearing a crunch-like sound and found the inner screen unusable while the outer screen functioned normally.

"We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement," Apple said in a statement to nine.com.au.

The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable device, marking a significant design shift since the original iPhone debuted in 2007. Foldable screens have previously presented challenges for other manufacturers, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, which faced display problems in 2019 before being revised and re-released.
