Microsoft offers voluntary exit packages to employees in India and three other countries

Resumen

Microsoft announced voluntary exit offers for up to 60,000 staff in India, Canada, the UK and the US, prompting concern among a recently hired Indian developer who received the email.

Microsoft disclosed that it is extending voluntary exit offers to employees in India, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, with as many as 60,000 workers eligible for the program. The deadline for employees to decide is December 1.

An Indian software developer who joined the company three months ago shared on the DevelopersIndia subreddit that they had received the email, expressing uncertainty about their future and noting that not all staff had been contacted. The user, identified online as "clock-maker365," said the offer included a severance package of two to three months' basic pay plus additional weeks based on tenure.

Microsoft has not commented on whether another round of layoffs is planned, but the firm previously laid off about 4,800 workers after offering voluntary retirement to some senior staff earlier in the year. Teams reportedly eligible for the voluntary exit option include Copilot, finance, human resources, Xbox, and Windows and Devices.

Other Reddit users suggested that having Microsoft on a résumé could aid future job searches and noted that a colleague who joined a month earlier had received a similar email. The discussion highlighted concerns among affected staff about limited savings and career prospects.
