Manchester United manager Michael Carrick leads training amid speculation over his future

Michael Carrick arrived at Carrington for Tuesday training despite ongoing crisis talks about his position, while the club evaluates possible replacements such as Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick was on the training ground on Tuesday morning, preparing the squad for the upcoming Premier League match against Chelsea. The appearance comes after senior club officials held emergency meetings following a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth, but no decision on Carrick’s future has been announced.

Technical director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada met on Monday to discuss the manager’s status and to gauge interest from potential successors. Former Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe and former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann are reported to be the leading candidates, with Aston Villa’s Unai Emery and Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler also mentioned as possible options.

United sit 16th in the league, two points above the relegation zone, and face a crucial away game at Chelsea on Saturday. A positive result could provide the team with breathing space, while a defeat may intensify pressure on Carrick.

"We remain focused on the next match and will address any longer-term considerations after the weekend," a club spokesperson said.

The club’s ownership group, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazer family members, continues to assess the situation, but Carrick is expected to lead the first-team training session on Tuesday as usual.
