Singapore's air quality improves as PM2.5 stays within normal range

Morning readings on Oct. 27 showed PM2.5 levels between 17 and 28 µg/m³ and a 24-hour PSI of 62-71, placing the island's air quality in the good-to-moderate band.

Singapore's air quality remained healthy overnight, with hourly PM2.5 measurements across all five regions ranging from 17 to 28 µg/m³ at 8 a.m. on Oct. 27. The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) recorded values between 62 and 71, placing conditions in the good-to-moderate category.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) had forecast a PSI of 60 to 90 for the day, and the observed figures fell within that range. While smoke haze was noted over Kalimantan on Oct. 26, the agency said it was confined to that area and that Singapore experienced cloudy weather.

NEA indicated that prevailing winds from the north-east or south-east and expected showers would keep the likelihood of haze low on Oct. 27. For the following two days, winds are expected to become variable with additional showers across the region.

"The wet conditions should help keep hotspot and smoke haze activity suppressed," NEA said.

When PSI exceeds 100, health advisories recommend that vulnerable groups reduce outdoor activities, but the current readings remain well below that threshold.
