Manchester United players to resume training amid uncertainty over Michael Carrick's future
United's squad will train on Tuesday after a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth, while club officials discuss the next steps for head coach Michael Carrick.
Manchester United's first-team players are scheduled to return to training at Carrington on Tuesday following a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday. Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox met at the training base on Monday to discuss the club's next steps, but it remains unclear whether head coach Michael Carrick will retain his position.
Carrick was present at Carrington on Monday to observe the club's under-21 side play Hull City in a closed-door match. The first-team squad had a day off, though several players, including captain Bruno Fernandes, received treatment for injuries.
"It's been quite a bizarre, strange day at Carrington. Director of football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada arrived early, and a few players were receiving treatment. Michael Carrick arrived just before 2 p.m. to watch the U21s," reported Sky Sports News reporter Danyal Khan.
United's loss to Bournemouth extended their winless run to eight games across all competitions and left them 16th in the Premier League with seven points from seven matches, one point above the relegation zone. The defeat also saw Carrick drop captain Bruno Fernandes to the bench after the midfielder questioned tactics following a previous Champions League loss.
Speculation about Carrick's tenure continues. Sky Sports News analyst Rob Dorsett suggested the club may be taking time to identify a replacement, noting the risk of a prolonged vacancy if a new manager declines the role. He also highlighted Carrick's popularity with supporters as a factor in the club's deliberations.
The club's hierarchy, which includes part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has not yet issued a decision on Carrick's future.
