UN commission says Israel continued genocidal actions in Gaza after ceasefire
A UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry report released Monday alleges that Israel kept carrying out genocidal acts in Gaza and worsening conditions in the West Bank following the October 2023 ceasefire, which Israel rejected as misinformation.
Geneva – A United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory released a report on Monday stating that Israeli forces continued to carry out actions it described as "genocidal" in Gaza after the U.S.-brokered ceasefire of October 2023. The commission examined alleged violations against Palestinian children from the start of the Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7, 2023 through September 2025 and said the violence persisted despite the truce.
The report says Israeli authorities kept using heavy munitions, drones, artillery and sniper fire in densely populated areas during the ceasefire and that the so-called “Yellow Line” demarcation was increasingly encroaching into Gaza, effectively expanding Israeli control. It also notes a sharp deterioration in the occupied West Bank, with Palestinian civilian deaths from airstrikes rising sharply.
Commission chair Srinivasan Muralidhar said the intentional killing of civilians and destruction of homes in the West Bank appeared to be part of a broader strategy aimed at displacing Palestinians. The document cites the displacement of over 34,000 Palestinians in the West Bank since January 2025, the largest such movement since 1967.
Israel’s mission in Geneva dismissed the findings, calling the report part of a misinformation effort aimed at undermining the state. Ambassador Daniel Meron said, "The attempt to destroy the Jewish state ... continues today through efforts by actors such as the UN Commission of Inquiry to undermine Israel’s legitimacy and deny its fundamental right to exist and defend itself."
