Rajinikanth's "Jailer 2" Tops Worldwide Box Office, Surpasses 2.0
"Jailer 2" became the highest-grossing Tamil film worldwide, reaching a total of Rs 710.35 crore in 11 days.
The sequel to the Rajinikanth-Nelson Dilipkumar action-comedy "Jailer 2" has overtaken the 2018 sci-fi hit 2.0 to become the highest-grossing Tamil film worldwide. Trade tracker Sacnilk reported a cumulative worldwide gross of Rs 710.35 crore after 11 days, with India net collections at Rs 466.85 crore and overseas earnings of Rs 243.50 crore.
In its domestic market, the film posted a net of Rs 25.70 crore on day 11, driven by strong performance across all language versions – Rs 17.35 crore from the Tamil version, Rs 4.50 crore from the Telugu version, Rs 3.15 crore from the Hindi version and Rs 0.70 crore from the Kannada version. The film also recorded the biggest second-weekend in Kollywood history, netting Rs 64.35 crore from Friday to Sunday.
"The biggest superstar of India and dare I say, greatest in world cinema too?" wrote trade analyst Himesh Mankad on X, praising Rajinikanth's sustained box-office appeal.
The movie is on track to become the first Tamil film to cross the Rs 1,000 crore worldwide mark, according to veteran distributor Tiruppur Subramaniam, who also noted that the film could run for another two weeks without major competition.
In regional markets, the film amassed around Rs 70.70 crore in Kerala, positioning it to surpass previous high-grossers such as "Manjummel Boys" and "Baahubali 2". In Karnataka, it maintained a daily gross above Rs 3 crore for the first 11 days, a record not matched by other recent blockbusters.
North American figures showed the film crossing its $6.5 million breakeven target, ending the first ten days with $6.85 million (approximately Rs 65 crore) and generating an additional $350,000 for the distributor.
The film’s overseas success includes becoming the first Tamil movie to exceed $25 million in overseas revenue, according to CineHub.
While the theatrical run continues, an OTT release on Amazon Prime Video is expected in mid-November, though the exact date has not been confirmed by the platform or the producers.
