Robot folds iPhone Duo thousands of times in live test to assess durability

Résumé

A YouTube livestream will feature a custom robot repeatedly folding the iPhone Duo to determine how many cycles the screen can endure before failing.

A live test will run on Monday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET on YouTube, during which a specially built robot will repeatedly fold Apple’s iPhone Duo to evaluate the device’s durability. The robot had already completed about 55,000 folds before the livestream began, and the experiment will continue until the screen shows signs of buckling, if it does.

The test, organized by CNET, aims to provide data on how the foldable phone withstands repeated stress, addressing early reports of screen issues from some owners. The livestream will allow viewers to watch the folding process in real time.

"We want to see how many folds it takes before the screen buckles, if it ever does," a CNET spokesperson said.

The demonstration is intended to offer a practical assessment of the iPhone Duo’s durability for potential buyers and current users.
