ABC Suspends 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' Indefinitely Following Host's Remarks on Charlie Kirk's Death

Summary

ABC has indefinitely suspended 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' after the host's comments regarding the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

ABC has indefinitely suspended the broadcast of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" following remarks made by host Jimmy Kimmel concerning the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. During his monologue on Monday, Kimmel suggested that Tyler Robinson, the individual accused of fatally shooting Kirk at a Utah university, was associated with President Donald Trump's MAGA movement.

In response to Kimmel's comments, Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr criticized the host's remarks as "truly sick" and indicated that there was a "strong case" for action against ABC and its parent company, Disney.

Nexstar Media Group, a major owner of ABC-affiliated stations, announced it would preempt "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" for the foreseeable future. Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar's broadcasting division, stated that Kimmel's comments were "offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse" and did not reflect the values of the local communities served by Nexstar.

An ABC spokesperson confirmed the indefinite preemption of the show but did not provide further details.
