Halloween candy prices rise over 15% amid broader cost pressures

Résumé

Candy packs are up more than 15% year-over-year, with some items nearing a 40% increase, as higher fuel, housing and food costs curb consumer spending.

Candy prices have climbed sharply, with popular packs of sour gummies and chocolate bars rising more than 15% over the past year, according to a recent market analysis. The increase is attributed in part to tariffs and the ongoing conflict in Iran, which have pushed up costs across a range of consumer goods.

In Texas, families are feeling the impact as overall candy sales fell 11.7% by mid-September, based on data from market-research firm NielsenIQ. > "I think what you're seeing now is a consumer that’s spending so much additional money on fuel and housing and clothing and food," said Chris Costagli, vice president and food thought leader at NielsenIQ. > "Some of the decisions they're making about Halloween candy, it's not necessarily because, 'I notice it's more expensive than last year,' it's, 'I can't afford it this year because I've paid so much more for so many other things. I just don't have the financial means to buy it this year.'"

The higher prices and tighter household budgets are prompting shoppers to cut back on non-essential items such as candy during the holiday season.
